26Division of Systems Scienceand Applied InformaticsArea of System TheorySystems science plays a fundamental role in model-ing, analysis, design, control, optimization, and evalu-ation of large and complex systems that often arise in engineering and scientic problems. This area focuses on research and education on systems theory, control theory, and signal processing theory with applications to mechanical, electrical, electronic,or other systems to create exible and intelligent systems based on a systems science approach.Systems and Control Group■Assoc.Prof.:Kenji KASHIMA■Assis.Prof.:Tomoaki HASHIMOTOThis group conducts researches on theory and appli-cations of systems and control, aiming advanced design and control of innovative systems in various elds including mechanical engineering, biological engineering, and environmental engineering.
