Application Guide for Call for Winter 2020 and Summer 2021

The Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, seeks to achieve a more prominent international reputation through their increased involvement in the exchange of students and researchers as well as joint research projects. Our program now offers interdisciplinary courses in which lectures, instruction, seminars and research-related supervision are given entirely in English. Eligible students can now sequentially attain both a Master's and Doctoral degree from Osaka University, a leading Japanese University, while having minimal to no experience in the Japanese language. These highly qualified and globally recognized graduate students will not only participate in cutting edge research, but also gain a sophisticated understanding of advanced engineering science topics. Please join us in exploring science and technology in the 21st century, through the guiding principles of the Graduate School of Engineering Science.

Note: This application is not related to the Monbukagakusho Scholarship (MEXT). The applicant is not pre-guaranteed to be supported by any scholarships.

Qualifications of Applicants(excerpt)

  1. Education:

    Master's Course applicants are required to

    1. have graduated from a university/college or be expected to graduate prior to the date of entrance to the course,
    2. have 16 years of formal education completed or complete it prior to the date of enrollment to our Master's Course, or
    3. have received the equivalent of a bachelor's degree through the completion of coursework which requires 3 or more years of study at an overseas university of school, or
    4. be approved as an equivalent to university graduates by the Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University

    Doctoral Course applicants are required to

    1. have a Master's degree completed or complete it prior to the date of enrollment to our Doctoral Course, or
    2. be approved as an equivalent to Master's graduates by the Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University.
  2. Language ability: Both course applicants are required to have good understanding of English.

Payment of Fees

  1. Examination fee: 30,000 JPY
  2. Admission fee: 282,000 JPY
  3. Tuition fees: 535,800 JPY per year

Note: If the fees are revised by the University, the students must pay the revised amount.

Screening

Overseas application: screening will be held on the basis of the application documents and via internet interview.

Domestic application: screening will be held on the basis of an oral/paper examination, and the application documents.

What is the "Engineering Science 21st Century" ?...

The objectives and missions:

The Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University aims to acquire a strong international reputation through increased exchange of students and researchers, and in joint research projects.

For this objective, the Graduate School of Engineering Science has decided to offer a new interdisciplinary course of "Engineering Science 21st Century" in which all the lectures, as well as all the instructions and supervision in research-related activities and seminars, are given in English, so that the students are not required to learn Japanese to join this course. In this course, globally recognized and highly qualified graduates are expected to be educated under the guiding principles of the Graduate School of Engineering Science, which Strives to Integrate Science and Technology.
