Visit by Ms. Pia Schmitt from TU Darmstadt (Germany)

The Graduate School of Engineering Science had the pleasure of welcoming Ms. Pia Schmitt, MA, Advisor Asia & Tongi Strategic Partnership Coordinator/Deputy Head of International Relations & Mobility of TU Darmstadt (Germany), with whom we have an inter-faculty agreement, on June 6, 2019. This was scheduled prior to the visit to Osaka University by President Professor Prömel.

As four of their students will be coming to the Graduate School of Engineering Science as special research students in October, we not only discussed how they would spend their research period and academic topics, but she was also able to see for herself how research activities are actually carried out, thus this proved to be a valuable visit.

After talking with Prof. Tanaka, head of international relations about student exchange based on university exchange agreements,

Ms. Schmitt then met with Prof. Umakoshi (office chief) and Assoc. Prof. Okabe (office manager), at the Advisement Office for International Students, who explained how the office offers our international students support and advice. It goes without saying that information regarding life while studying and researching abroad was well shared.

Ms. Schmitt also had the opportunity to visit two of the laboratories that her students will be hosted by in October: Nishikawa Laboratory (Mechanical Engineering) and Hosoda Laboratory (Systems Science and Applied Informatics). Our graduate students explained how research is carried out in the labs, and this surely helped her to get a sound grasp of what her students will expect when they come to Osaka University in October.
